Africa-Press – Angola. Karate athlete Arsélia Lourenço from Bié province is aiming to win an unprecedented title at the world championships, to be held from November 1st to 3rd in Japan.
In the under 61 kg category, Arsélia Lourenço is the first and only representative from Bié to qualify for a world championship, having won the African championship in Namibia in April 2024.
In statements, Arsélia Lourenço, specializing in Shotokan, expressed her pride in achieving this feat and set her sights on winning the gold medal.
“I feel honored to be the first athlete from the province to reach a world championship and I promise to fight to achieve my goal, which is to bring the gold medal to Angola and bring honor to the country and my province in particular,” she said.
To achieve this goal, he announced that he has been preparing intensively since last July to achieve success in the competition.On the other hand, he requested greater emotional and psychological support from the people of Bié, so that she feels more comfortable and motivated to achieve victory.
The president of the Bié Provincial Karate-Do Association, Alcino Kangunga, emphasized that the organization expects a victory from Arsélia Lourenço to strengthen the province’s representation and put its name on the world stage.
Arsélia Lourenço, 19 years old, has practiced Karate-Do since 2019 and is an athlete of the Personal Defense Club of the Rapid Intervention Police Unit (PIR).
In Bié, the association oversees more than 600 athletes, distributed among ten legally registered clubs and academies in all 19 municipalities of this central Angolan province.
The national Karate-Do team seeks to improve on the 8th place achieved in the previous championship.
