Africa-Press – Angola. Five Angolan personalities were decorated this Monday, in Luanda, for their contribution to publicizing the life and work of the founder of the Nation, António Agostinho Neto, within the framework of the centenary of the first President of Angola.

The recognition was carried out by the Embassy of Angola in the Federative Republic of Russia and took place at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).

General Alberto Kizua, the rector of the Methodist University of Angola, Tiago Mutombo, the director of the Memorial António Agostinho Neto (MAAN), António Fonseca, the deputy to the National Assembly, were awarded the Agostinho Neto centenary medal, celebrated in 2022. Paulo de Carvalho and university professor Celso Malovoloneque.

After handing over the medals, MIREX’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingo Custodio Vieira Lopes, said that the recognition results from the activities carried out by these citizens and recommended the permanent dissemination of Agostinho Neto’s achievements.

On the occasion, the ambassador of Angola to the Federative Republic of Russia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, said that as part of the centenary of António Agostinho Neto, a series of activities were developed which culminated in the placement of the bust of the first President of Angola in the library of Foreign Language of Russia.

In this context, he said, the honored citizens played a fundamental role in approaching the life and work of Agostinho Neto to Angolan citizens, and not only in this country.

António Agostinho Neto was born on September 17, 1922, in the town of Kaxicane, Icolo and Bengo (Angola), and died on September 10, 1979, in Moscow.
