Government of Bié revitalizes Provincial Reading Plan

Africa-Press – Angola. Launched three years ago, the Bié Province Reading Plan has recently gained a new dynamic, with the creation, in the nine municipalities, of school libraries, mobile and fixed.

The information was provided, in the municipality of Cunhinga, by the director of the Office of Culture, Tourism and Youth and Sports of Bié, Afonso Belo Sanguvila, at the provincial event of International Children’s Literature Day.

The plan aims to stimulate the mental and intellectual health of children, young people and adults, through the habit of increasingly writing and reading, contributing to greater mastery of the Portuguese language and national languages, opening new vocabulary horizons.

On the occasion, director Afonso Belo Sanguvila spoke of the need for writers to produce books that portray the experiences of children and young people, with a view to strengthening the civic and patriotic education of this fringe.

In turn, the municipal administrator of Cunhinga, Georgina Lumati, also highlighted the importance that literature and reading play in children’s lives, as they shape behavior and contribute to the development of human intellect.

During the ceremony, more than a thousand children who attended the event benefited from gifts, participated in a children’s book fair, as well as being informed about the emergence of Bié, through a lecture on the theme: “The Viye Kingdom”, given by historian Rangel Switchblade.
