Africa-Press – Angola. The general director of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), Leonardo Sapalo, reaffirmed this Tuesday, in Sumbe, the Executive’s commitment to demining in the province of Cuanza Sul, to guarantee socio-economic development .

Leonardo Sapalo, who was speaking at the end of a meeting with the deputy governor for the political, economic and social sector of Cuanza Sul, Emília Tchinawalile, referred that ANAM and the NGOs that work in demining are committed to eliminating mines in the province, in order to allow the free circulation of people and goods and the development of agriculture.

“Kwanza Sul has agricultural potential, so it must be free of mines. We are aware that achieving this goal will not be an easy task, but with everyone’s commitment and dedication we will overcome”, he stressed.

In this sense, he exhorted the operators involved in the demining process to continue to work hard and in a synchronized way, so that the transparency of the results is validated by all.

On the occasion, the deputy governor underlined that the local government will continue to work with NGOs linked to demining so that the province can be free of mines, thus contributing to the increase in cultivation areas, among other projects.

“Kwanza Sul has an extensive area for farming, which is why families and agricultural companies intend to increase production. Likewise, with the demining we will not have victims of these devices in the province, allowing the execution of works on the Mussende / Malanje and Mussende / Bié roads”, he added.

Angola has registered, in its database, one thousand and 69 mined areas, corresponding to 66 million, 481 thousand and 299 square meters.

Completion of the demining process in the country, initially scheduled for 2025, was extended to 2028, due to financial problems.

The province of Cuanza Sul is the fourth most mined in the country.
