Government prioritizes access roads in the Songo region

Africa-Press – Angola. The rehabilitation of roads and the improvement of energy, water, education, health and agriculture services were reiterated yesterday, Friday, by the provincial governor of Malanje, Marcos Nhunga, as priority actions to stimulate development and provide good -being of the residents of the Songo region.

According to the leader, the achievement of these goals will contribute to the promotion of production and, consequently, the growth of the economy, hence the government’s intention to continue working in this direction.

Marcos Nhunga made these statements at the end of a three-day visit to the municipalities of Quirimba and Luquembo, where he assessed the socio-economic situation of the respective regions.

He explained that in these localities there was a need to improve the roads, which is why the Ministry of Public Works is already studying ways of intervening in this field to provide better circulation of people and goods, through the rehabilitation of the main sections.

“We are also starting contacts with the Ministry of Energy and Water, with a view to gradually overcoming the energy problem, because the province has only three municipalities that benefit from hydroelectric energy, namely Malanje, Cacuso and Calandula”, he stressed.

He added that the problems of the sectors of education, health and agriculture, among others, will be easier to resolve, if the problem of roads is initially resolved.

He said that the government is working to find solutions to all these problems, but it is necessary to get to work with some urgency, so that in the current five-year period everything is resolved, eventually correcting the most burning problems that afflict the citizens.

Another issue noted with concern by the governor of Malanje is the non-completion of the project to build 200 housing units in Quirima and Luquembo, with less than 100 homes being built in each location.

In this regard, he stressed that guidelines were issued to municipal administrations to prioritize these works in the next financial years, because in addition to these, other works are still paralyzed, creating disorders in the lives of citizens.

The governor’s working day in these locations culminated with visits to various works under construction and paralyzed for various reasons, including financial, followed by consultation with traditional and religious authorities, as well as with civil society about the problems they face.

In these meetings, citizens were unanimous in presenting problems essentially related to the need to improve roads and the education, health and agriculture sectors, with a view to creating conditions tending to provide the well-being of citizens.

Alongside Quirima and Luquembo, the Songo region also comprises the municipalities of Cangandala, part of Mucari and Cambundi Catembo, the latter to be visited next Tuesday (17th) by governor Marcos Nhunga.
