Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Social Action, Lúcio do Amaral, recommended, this Wednesday, that a new survey be carried out in the Lóvua refugee camp, in Lunda Norte, to identify those who wish to be repatriated and remain in the country.
The official made this recommendation during a visit to the Lóvua camp, in Lunda Norte, stressing that the survey aims to carry out a new process of voluntary and organized repatriation of the DRC refugees housed in the Lóvua camp.
He said it was necessary for a new tripartite meeting between the governments of Angola, the DRC and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to define the date for restarting the repatriation process.
In May 2017, an initial group of 35,000 DRC citizens arrived in Lunda Norte province, fleeing acts of violence in the Kassai area, a crisis that led to the declaration of an emergency situation.
Currently, ACUNUR controls 6,506 refugees in the Lóvua camp and 2,826 in the city of Dundo, the rest were repatriated in their country of origin.
The Secretary of State has been in Lunda Norte province since Wednesday morning, where he will lead the closing ceremony for the social reintegration of former soldiers, demobilized in 1992 and 2002.
The ceremony will be marked with the delivery of kits for the promotion of trade and agriculture, benefiting 47 former soldiers.
