Government reinforces commitment to the realization of human rights in Bié

Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of Bié reiterated in the city of Cuito, its continued commitment to the fulfillment of human rights, within the framework of the Universal Declaration on this issue.

Speaking at the 1st conference of the Provincial Committee for Human Rights of Bié, the delegate of Justice in this region, Cristino João Valério, underlined that the authorities’ idea is to ensure citizens the materialization of human rights, mainly the protection of the dignity of the human person.

As a result, he highlighted that, in the last five years alone, the Government of this part of the country, within the framework of its responsibilities, has already implemented nine human rights committees, and is now introducing communal committees, to safeguard citizens.

He also announced that there was an improvement in the fulfillment of human rights in Bié, through the minimum conditions created, whether in infrastructures built in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), Combating Poverty (PIDLCP) or in Public Investments (PIP).

Cristino Valério also highlights the investment that the Government has made in the areas of education and health, which essentially sees the entry of more children into the education system and a significant improvement in humanized care in health units, among other public sectors.

For this reason, he considered the evaluation of human rights in this region of the country to be positive, insofar as there is no record of any cases of violation and also for the commitment of the entities in awareness actions among citizens, raising their legal culture, whether in denunciations or to protect them.

In this first conference, attended by the National Director of Human Rights, Yannick Bernardo, participants coming from the nine municipalities of Bié will debate topics such as the National Human Rights Strategy and the Local Human Rights Committees: Challenges and Implementation Plan, the Situation of Bié Human Rights Committee and the province’s Child Rights Protection System.

On Friday, the last day, a capacity-building seminar is reserved for the Local Human Rights Committee, with topics related to the Introduction of Human Rights, Mechanism for the National and International Protection of Human Rights and the Process of Elaboration and Presentation of Reports on the Situation of Human Rights at Local Level.
