Government Spends 203 Million on the Acquisition of Medicines

Africa-Press – Angola. Around two hundred and three million kwanzas are invested monthly in the province of Malanje for the acquisition of medicines and consumable materials, a measure that aims to strengthen the response capacity of the region’s hospitals, revealed yesterday the vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector. Franco Mufinda spoke at the end of a visit to the central medicines warehouse, carried out with the aim of assessing the current situation of grouped purchases of medicines for the General, Sanatorium and Paediatric hospitals.

According to the governor, in November last year 100 million kwanzas were invested for the acquisition of medicines. However, in February and March of this year, the investment was increased to 203 million kwanzas per month, allowing a significant increase in the volume of medicines acquired, rising from 90 tonnes to 130 tonnes.

“The grouped purchasing method has allowed substantial gains in quality, quantity and price, which directly benefits the province’s health system,” said the vice-governor.The director of the Malanje General Hospital, Ana Ventura, highlighted that grouped purchases have guaranteed the regular supply of essential medicines, including antibiotics and drugs for specialties such as Cardiology, Urology and Surgery, adding that the hospital unit has new laboratory equipment, for carrying out exams and providing medicines at no additional cost to patients.
