Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Malanje for the Technical and Infrastructure sector, Angelino Quissonde, highlighted on Saturday the need for more investment in basketball in the province, through the training of new talents, with a view to rescuing the mystique of the sport.

Speaking on the occasion of the closing of the 31st edition of the under-14 national basketball championship for both sexes, which Malanje hosted from the 21st to the 29th of this month, the official referred that the continuous participation in high-level competitions also constitutes a form of development of basketball.

He stressed that the intended investments also involve training and inserting children and youth into the practice of the modality, so that the business community is called upon to make its contribution, supporting the mass projects of the Provincial Association and the Clubs.

Meanwhile, he expressed the interest of the government of Malanje in working soon with companies and clubs towards the creation of men’s and women’s basketball teams, with a view to making the sport stand out and making use of the Palanca Negra arena pavilion, the main stage for sports competitions. provincial room.

Regarding the championship now ended, the vice-governor considered that it came to help boost and create good expectations with regard to the development of basketball in the province, taking into account the skills and talents demonstrated.

In turn, the competition coordinator, Toni Sofrimento, was satisfied with the level of competitiveness of the teams, highlighting having noticed a delivery and practical application of basketball subjects.

He only regretted the small number of participating teams (13) of both sexes, despite the technical and other conditions for more competitors, having therefore appealed to the provincial governments in order to support the massification of basketball.

Petro de Luanda was the winner of the men’s competition, having revalidated the title, by beating Ferroviário de Angola by 56-53 in the final.

In the women’s category, Casa do Pessoa from Porto do Lobito defeated 1o de Agosto with great difficulty, winning by 51-50.

The competition had the participation of Petro, Benfica, Kilamba, Ferroviário, Sequele, Vila Clotilde, all from Luanda and BP Cunha from Malanje, in men.

In females, 1o de Agosto, Palanca, Estrelinha, Escorpiões (Luanda), Casa do Emprego do Porto de Lobito (Benguela) and Académica de Malanje participated.
