In the message sent to the local media, on the occasion of African Women’s Day, the governor refers that “equality of opportunity at the gender level in Angola is a fact”, hence the appointment of several ladies in decision-making positions, highlighting the appointment, in 2022, of the current Vice-President of the Republic.
“Angola has registered a significant growth in the number of emancipated and empowered women in recent years, although we recognize that there is still much to be done, mainly in the fight against domestic and sexual violence and the discrimination that many women still suffer”, reads the statement. message.
On the other hand, he said that the event reflects the bravery of women, who have always known how to demonstrate their strengths in the most different stages of society’s evolution.
He stressed that women have a preponderant role in preserving and transmitting civic and moral values, as well as in strengthening the cohesion and unity of families, as the fundamental nucleus of society.
He appealed to women to continue contributing to the reinforcement and consolidation of national unity, democracy, social peace and reconciliation among Angolans.
African Women’s Day has been celebrated since 1962, in order to encourage the creation of environments that promote harmony and attention to women.
The institution of the date took place at the Conference of African Women, in Dar-es-Salam (Tanzania) and has as one of its main objectives the empowerment of African women at various political, social, cultural and other levels and strata.
