Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, defended, this Sunday, in Luena, the union of Angolans to build a prosperous and democratic nation, to perpetuate the teachings of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.

The government official was speaking at the provincial event commemorating September 17th, National Hero’s Day, celebrated under the motto “Together for the Development of Angola”, in a ceremony held at the Monumento à Paz Tourist Complex.

He highlighted the political and humanist dimension of Agostinho Neto in the country’s liberation process, “giving his best for the good of Angola”.

According to Muangala, Neto’s works and thoughts help to consolidate the national political process and work to resolve the population’s problems, increasing the supply of basic services and strengthening participatory democracy, to build a “happy” nation.

António Agostinho Neto was born in Icolo and Bengo on September 17, 1922 and died in Moscow on September 10, 1979.

He was an Angolan doctor, writer and politician. In 1975 he proclaimed National Independence and became the first President of Angola until 1979.
