Africa-Press – Angola. Cornmeal, produced 100% with national raw material, is one of the highlights of the basic basket products presented this Monday, at the Grupo Carrinho fair.
Interviewed on the occasion of the company’s 30th anniversary celebration, Yuri Rodrigues, from the Communication and Marketing area, said that, at the moment, the company has already guaranteed the collection of more than 100 thousand tons of corn.
According to him, Carrinho Agri, a subsidiary of the company in the agricultural sector, has contracts with peasant families in various regions of the country, for the purchase of their product.
“We have more than 60,000 producers, thirteen of which are large-scale, and we want to reach 150,000 by the end of the year”, said Yuri Rodrigues, adding that the group intends to do the same, as early as next year, with beans.
Other products manufactured by the company and presented at the fair are wheat flour, beans, pasta, vegetable oil, sugar, soap and biscuits.
Asked about the use of the Lobito Corridor, he considered that the company is well served, as it has a branch linking it to the Benguela Railway (CFB).
From there, you can load your products and take them to Luau (Moxico), as well as welcome others from that area to the province of Benguela.
On the occasion, a moment was reserved for the presentation of the company’s history, where the founder, Leonor Carrinho, explained its emergence, from the catering business, done in her own home, with improvised conditions.
Afterwards, the Executive Director, Samuel Cadundo, spoke about his trajectory, until he reached contracts with the State, namely with the Angolan Armed Forces and the National Police, which helped to expand and diversify the business.
“Today, we have Carrinho Indústria, in the processing and transformation of products, Carrinho Comércio, with the Bem Barato stores and other businesses, as well as Carrinho Agri, in the field of agriculture”, he said.
In turn, the director of Carrinho Indústria, Décio Catarro, who has been with the company for nine years, said that the company is contributing to the diversification of the economy and consequently to the development of the country.
The Carrinho Group was created in 1993 and completes 30 years of existence on September 8, 2023. Its businesses are located in seventeen provinces of the country, except Lunda Norte, and employs more than seven thousand workers.
