Africa-Press – Angola. Seven agricultural products and three proteins of animal origin are being studied by the Carrinho Group, Deloitte and the Catholic University, with a view to obtaining a vision for self-sufficiency in their production by 2030.

According to the Executive Director for the Financial area of Grupo Carrinho, Samuel Candumbo, who presented the nuances of the study, the seven lines of agricultural products are: corn, rice, beans, sugar, soy, wheat and cotton , while proteins are linked to cattle, pigs and poultry (chicken).

“We are going to get to know the current situation and understand the dynamics of the national and international market and analyze our internal capacity to produce these products, from the country’s fields and not depend on imports to feed our factories”, he explained.

He also said that, in the 2022/23 campaign, Carrinho Agri (a sector that oversees agriculture) managed to register 58,000 peasant families and its work will make this year an end to the importation of maize for the production of cornmeal.

“The corn we use as raw material for the production of fuba, sold in our Bem Barato stores, comes from Dombe Grande, Cassongue, Waco Kungo and the lands of Bié”, he underlined.

In turn, the partner in charge of the Energy and Human Resources sector at Deloitte, Frederico Martins Correia, stated that his company’s objective is to understand the strengths that exist, the goals and the path between the combination of these strategic objectives of Carrinho Agri .

“In this way we can advise the company and implement this strategy, taking into account its capabilities and the difficulties that have to be overcome”, he said.

For Frederico Correia, Deloitte, with its experience and global presence in the national market, will bring added value to this project so that Carrinho can transform its objectives into reality.

Deloitte collaborates with Carrinho since its initial structure, in Human Resources models and in its positioning in the market, today more focused on agriculture.

“As the organization faced new challenges, Deloitte gave its support, sometimes with more successes, sometimes with less, but the relationship is good and strong”, he considered.

On the other hand, Manuel Alberto, from the Center for Study and Scientific Research at the Catholic University of Angola, said that within Carrinho’s vision, by 2030, his institution will carry out an impact analysis to determine the effects of this objective.

Carrinho is training the 58,000 cataloged families and its assistance will transform production capacity and consequently bring income to them, according to Manuel Alberto.

The representative of the Catholic University also added that the institution will analyze the impact on families, on the agricultural sector and on the economy, and then define the indicators with which it will work.

Carrinho Agri is a driving force in the agricultural transition process in Angola and is committed to reintegrating the promotion of family farming into the national economy, representing around 80 percent of total production.
