Africa-Press – Angola. Guinea-Bissau will assume the presidency of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), between 2025 and 2027, as well as host the next Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The announcement was made this Sunday by the President of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, during the XIV Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Guinea-Bissau is expected to succeed São Tomé and Príncipe, which took over leadership of the organization this Sunday.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government is the highest body of the CPLP. Its responsibilities are to define and guide the organization’s general policy and strategies.

Founded on July 17, 1996, the CPLP has Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor as member states.
