Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço on Thursday congratulated the Angolan senior men’s national basketball team for their 90-80 victory over Cape Verde, in the Afrobasket 2025 quarterfinal game.
In a message published on his official page on the social media called X, the Head of State highlighted the commitment and determination of the athletes and coaching staff, emphasizing that Angola is once again confirming its tradition in African basketball.
“For another convincing victory, I congratulate the young players and coaching staff of the Angolan national basketball team. The team and the Angolan public are up to the challenge of winning the trophy at stake at Afrobasket 2025,” wrote President João Lourenço.
The statesman noted that the victory came in a year of great symbolism for the country, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on November 11, emphasizing that “Angolans deserve to win the African Basketball Championship for the 12th time.”
However, with this victory, Angola strengthens its aspirations of regaining the continental title, after several years of failure, and reaffirms its status as a powerhouse in African basketball.
In the semi-finals, Angola faces Cameroon on Saturday.
