According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the missive, whose content was not disclosed, was delivered by Minister Téte António, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, has a meeting scheduled for today with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, to whom he will send a message from the Head of State João Lourenço.
It should be recalled that Angola currently assumes the presidency of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, and, through the efforts made by the Government, the Head of State João Lourenço was recently named Champion of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, appointed by their peers at the Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Another note states that, just yesterday, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, “praised” the efforts made by Angola, through the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, for the pacification of the region. of the Great Lakes.
The recognition expressed during a meeting between the African Union commissioner and the head of Angolan diplomacy, Téte António, underlines, in this sense, that President João Lourenço has fulfilled his mandate as Champion of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.
For Commissioner Bankole Adeoye, Angola has carried out its mediation in a coordinated manner as it is a complex process, always bearing in mind the peace, security and development of the Great Lakes Region.
The official praised the way in which the electoral process is being conducted in the country and thanked the African Union for the invitation to send observers to follow the General Elections on August 24, which will count, for the first time, with the participation of Angolan citizens. residing outside the country.
At the meeting, the Foreign Minister reflected on Angola’s role in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in Africa. On the occasion, Téte António highlighted the holding of the Tripartite Summit in Luanda and the meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission between the DRC and Rwanda, which also took place in the Angolan capital, on a proposal from Angola.
The African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security is responsible for leading the formulation and implementation of policies, programs and strategies on political affairs, peace and security, in line with what are the aspirations of Agenda 2063, as well as the respective medium-term plans and other important continental policy frameworks.
The Commissioner also leads engagement with African Union Member States and strategic partners in fulfilling continental priorities in this area of jurisdiction, having a high commitment to Pan-African values and the organization’s guiding principles.
