Africa-Press – Angola. At least 20 criminal cases of sexual abuse of minors, most of them committed by their own parents and guardians, are awaiting judgment at the Huambo District Court.
The information was provided by the presiding judge of the Huambo District Court, António Filipe Sebastião, during a round table on “good governance practices, transparency and combating corruption”, as part of the celebrations of IGAE’s 32nd anniversary, which marks, under the motto “More rigor, transparency and control”.
At the time, the judge said that these were frequent harmful behaviors, which the court had not considered, as they are crimes that must be punished exemplarily.
“Just yesterday we received a case from a 35-year-old stepfather who raped his wife’s three-year-old daughter, who is currently in a very serious state of health”, he lamented.
According to reports from the procedural support unit of the judge of guarantee, in recent times there have been many problems of this kind in the province of Huambo, mainly involving close relatives of the victims, including stepfathers, parents, cousins and grandparents.
Therefore, he considered it important to carry out studies with all sectors involved in the administration of Justice, to determine the reason for these harmful behaviors of perpetrators.
The judge said that the Huambo District Court works satisfactorily with the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office and the General Inspection of State Administration (IGAE) taking into account the important role they play in the various phases of procedural instruction.
He informed that, as a result of this relationship, the local district is processing three embezzlement cases, which involve municipal administrators and other public managers who have already been exonerated, whose trial could take place soon.
In addition to this District, which includes the municipalities of Cachiungo and Chicala-Cholohanga, the judicial region of Huambo also has the Courts of the District of Caála (Chinjenje, Ecunha, Longonjo and Ucuma) and Bailundo (Londuimbali and Mungo).
