Africa-Press – Angola. The inauguration of the Satellite Control and Mission Centre, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, was transferred to next Friday (27th), according to an official communication.

The infrastructure would be opened, initially, next Monday, but calendar reasons led to the postponement of the act until Tuesday, act now transferred to Friday (27), according to official communication.

The inauguration of the centre, located in the Funda area, in the province of Luanda, takes place within the scope of the National Space Strategy and after the successful launch of the ANGOSAT-2 into orbit.

The development was built on a total surface of 6,617 m2, with 3 floors, 47 compartments and duly equipped with technical and technological means.

The Satellite Mission and Control Center is an intelligent infrastructure with multiple engineering advantages, capable of ensuring the tracking, monitoring and operation of satellites, in this case the ANGOSAT-2.

ANGOSAT-2 is an Angolan communications satellite, launched on October 12, 2022, at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, and is in orbit at position 23E.

With high data transmission rates, ANGOSAT-2 was designed and built with the direct participation and dedication of Russian and Angolan specialists, and has the capacity to cover, through the C-Band, the entire African continent and a significant part of the South. from Europe.

The satellite will contribute to an excellent and modern source of revenue generation, since ANGOSAT-2 offers coverage to a significant part of the African continent and the European continent, and will contribute greatly to reducing the digital divide in Angola and Angolans as well as Africa.

It will also help, significantly, in the expansion of telecommunications services to the most remote areas of the country at competitive prices, guarantee a greater development of telemedicine, distance education services, direct support to agricultural activity, and not only, in terms of national.

The creation of employment opportunities in areas related to space technology, such as maintenance and installation of VSAT antennas, and the country’s autonomy in the process of developing and operating equipment, opening up new scenarios for professionals and companies in the aerospace sector, are part of of the purposes of this Angolan satellite.
