Africa-Press – Angola. The Ombudsman’s office in southern Cunene province has recently received a high number of complaints due to awareness campaigns and legal education in local communities.
On Monday, Eusébio Vaenduanawa, the ombudsman’s delegate in Cunene, announced that 721 hearings were registered in 2025, including complaints, denunciations, and claims. This resulted in 641 cases, 77 of which were resolved.
Compared to the previous year, there was an increase of more than 400 hearings, which is a result of raising awareness among the population and encouraging them to seek justice when their rights are violated.
“Today, we see that citizens are aware of the need to speak out when they are indignant about certain actions by public institutions that attempt to violate their rights, freedoms, and guarantees,”the jurist said.
Vaenduanawa said that many of the concerns were related to land conflicts, land rights, procedural delays, the excessive use of pretrial detention, cattle rustling, social security, the freezing of bank accounts, and delinquency.
The Ombudsman’s Office is an independent institution that defends the rights, freedoms, and guarantees of citizens. It ensures the justice and legality of the Public Administration through informal means.
