INE in Zaire updates cartographic data for the 2024 Census

Africa-Press – Angola. The Zaire Provincial Service of the National Statistics Institute (INE) began, this Friday, in Mbanza Kongo, the updating of cartographic data, aiming for the 2024 Census.

The aim of this process, which will last nine months, is to carry out a new survey of the number of habitable residences in each neighborhood and block, village or town, data that will be used for the General Population and Housing Census taking place in the country, in 2024.

Twenty-two technicians are involved in this activity, which will extend to six municipalities and 25 communes in this part of the national territory.

Speaking to the press, the head of the INE Provincial Service, Dora Vitorina Luzolo, informed that motorbikes and small boats will facilitate the arrival of cartographers in difficult-to-access areas and habitable islands located along the Zaire river channel.

He appealed to the population of the region to collaborate with the technicians in service, providing the necessary data for the success of this process.

It is important to note that, within the scope of the General Population and Housing Census, scheduled for next year, the National Statistics Institute (INE) carried out, from July 19th to September 5th, 2023, the Pilot Census, in seven provinces of the country carefully selected.

These are the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Bié, Lunda Norte, Cuando Cubango, Uíge and Cunene.

The Census is the main source of data on the living situation of the population in municipalities and localities, information relevant to the definition of public policies in a country or certain territory.

The last census in Angola was carried out in 2014, whose preliminary results indicated a universe of 24.3 million inhabitants residing in the country, of which 11.8 million were male (48%) and 12.5 million were female (52 %.).
