Africa-Press – Angola. Inflation in Angola, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN), registered a year-on-year variation of 2.07% in August, 0.44 percentage points more than in July.

With a tendency for inflation to increase, the education class was the one that registered the biggest price increase, with a variation of 6.19%, according to the Quick Information Sheet (FIR) published on Monday, by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Compared to the same period last year (August 2022 to August 2023), the IPCN registered an acceleration in the current variation of 1.28 percentage points.

After the “education” class, healthcare (2.37%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.19%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.12%) also contributed to the price increase.

At the level of the 18 provinces, only three recorded less price variation, namely Benguela (1.16%), Cuando Cubango (1.18%) and Moxico (1.19%).

The provinces of Luanda (2.82%), Lunda Sul (2.06%) and Namibe (1.67%) had the highest variations.

The year-on-year variation stands at 13.54%, registering a decrease of 6.24 percentage points in relation to that observed in the same period of the previous year (August 2022), while the accumulated variation stood at 9.91%

Comparing the current year-on-year variation with that recorded in the previous month, there is an acceleration of 1.42 percentage points (pp).

The “food and non-alcoholic beverages” class contributed the most to the increase in the general price level with 1.28 pp, during the month of August, followed by the miscellaneous goods and services classes (0.15 pp), education( 0.14 pp) and transport (0.10 pp).

The remaining classes had contributions of less than 0.10 percentage points.

In Luanda it was 2.82%

Inflation in the province of Luanda, with more than eight million inhabitants, registered a variation of 2.82% from July to August 2023.

Comparing monthly variations (July to August 2023), an acceleration of 0.64 percentage points is observed.

In year-on-year terms (August 2022 to August 2023), there was an acceleration in the current variation of 2.12 percentage points.

The education class was also the one that recorded the biggest price increase with 5.90%.

Also noteworthy is the increase in prices in the transportation (3.62%), health (3.27%), clothing and footwear (3.15%) classes.
