Africa-Press – Angola. The Association of Autochthonous Companies for the Oil Industry of Angola (ASSEA), in partnership with the Muhatu Energy Angola (MEA) platform, will launch, on Thursday, the professional internship program called Ubuntu.
Aimed at final-year students of technical-professional courses, the Ubuntu internship program’s main objective is to provide students with the opportunity to emerge in a real work environment, where they will face daily challenges and apply their theoretical knowledge in practical situations.
The Ubuntu program takes a look at gender diversity in the sector, for this reason, it is aimed exclusively at female students.
Currently, the inclusion of women in the oil industry represents only 22% of the total workforce, with an even lower representation of 8% in technical areas.
For the vice-president of ASSEA, Berta Rodrigues Issa, “these numbers highlight the pressing need to create meaningful opportunities for women in the energy industry”.
According to the note sent to JA Online, in the first phase of the program, the target audience will be made up of students from the National Petroleum Institute (INP) and fourth-year or final year students from the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências (ISPTEC), which will begin by absorbing notions about the functioning and rules of the organization, learning about ISOs (International Standardization of the Organization), culture and strategy of the organization.
During the internships, the recipients will learn about the procedures used, introduction to hygiene, safety and environment, as well as the Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
“The interns will acquire practical knowledge in real engineering techniques, as well as skills for field work, following all applicable rules and regulations. They will also be able to identify specific areas that require personal or professional growth and will be better prepared to face these challenges. They will feel more confident and prepared to take on a professional position in the oil and gas sector, if a hiring opportunity arises”, added Janice Faria, Executive Director of Enagol, one of the companies that is providing internships to the students.
The Ubuntu internship program will be paid and will last three months. Candidates will be selected based on academic performance, passion for the technical area and desire to make a difference in the oil industry.
“By offering equal training and career development opportunities, we are committed to helping transform the landscape of the oil industry in Angola and creating a more inclusive and diverse environment”, concluded Berta Rodrigues Issa, Vice President of ASSEA.
