Africa-Press – Angola. The 2nd edition of the Hackathon (programming marathon) started on Saturday, at the premises of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (INSTIC), with the aim of promoting innovative technological solutions to the challenges of the insurance sector in Angola.

The event, which runs until Monday (22) is a joint initiative between the Telecommunications Institute (ITEL) and Nossa Seguros insurance company.

Regarding the event, the ITEL director general, Cláudio Gonçalves, highlighted the partnership with Nossa Seguros as an example of rapprochement between the business sector and academia.

He added that the Hackathon goes beyond a simple competition, asserting itself as an innovation platform aimed at solving real problems in the insurance market.

He also highlighted the strong participation of young people at the event, with 397 applications in less than seven days, from various regions of the country, and praised the talent and maturity of the national innovation ecosystem.

For his part, the President of the Executive Committee of Nossa Seguros, Alexandre Carreira, thanked the partnership with ITEL and highlighted that the Hackathon brings together creativity, technology and talent with a focus on combating fraud in insurance.

He warned that fraud makes insurance more expensive, delays processes and harms people, companies and the economy, highlighting the role of technology, data and artificial intelligence in detecting fraud and improving processes in the sector.

Finally, he encouraged participants to work as a team and develop practical solutions capable of generating real impact on the future of the Angolan insurance sector.

The event reinforces ITEL’s pioneering role in promoting technological innovation and training young talents, as well as Nossa Seguros’ commitment to investing in the digital transformation and sustainable development of the insurance sector.

Together, these institutions show that strategic partnerships between companies and academia can generate concrete solutions, stimulate creativity and build a more efficient and secure future for the country’s insurance market.
