Japan wants to increase the volume of business with Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The Japanese ambassador accredited to Angola, Suzuki Toru, defended this Friday the increase in the volume of business between the two countries, to increasingly strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Japanese diplomat, who was speaking to the press after a meeting with the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, acknowledged that the volume of business between the two countries is still not satisfactory.

“In fact, the volume of business between the two countries is currently not satisfactory, which is why we recently signed the reciprocal investment promotion agreement”, he pointed out.

He highlighted Angola’s great economic potential, promising greater business opportunities between the two countries.

In March this year, President João Lourenço made a state visit to Japan, aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

Likewise, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry visited Angola in August this year, during which an investment promotion agreement was signed between the two countries.

For the Japanese diplomat, these events helped to open a new era of cooperation between the two States.

As well as relations between states, the diplomat and his interlocutor reviewed interparliamentary cooperation, having confirmed the presence of six Japanese deputies at the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (UIP), taking place next October in the Angolan capital.

Japan has strongly supported the demining process in Angola and is implementing projects in the health, education, food assistance, telecommunications and agriculture sectors, with a turnover of around US$50 million in terms of trade.

Among the biggest private projects is the development of the Port of Namibe, being carried out by Toyota Tsusho Corporation, valued at around US$700 million.

Bilateral cooperation between Angola and Japan began in 1988 as Emergency Aid, via the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

After the end of the war in Angola, in 2002, Japan started to cooperate with Angola in Assistance to Demining Areas, Social Reinsertion of Ex-Soldiers and Reintegration of Refugees.
