The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated, on Saturday, in a message, the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Sidi Ould Tah, recently elected to the position. In the note sent, João Lourenço expressed “immense joy” at the appointment of Sidi Ould Tah, considering it an achievement that “will certainly contribute to the growth of your institution and the progress of the African continent”.

“Allow me the honour, on my own behalf, on behalf of the Government of Angola and on behalf of the African Union, to present to Your Excellency our warmest and most fraternal congratulations, wishing you continued success and prosperity”, wrote the Head of State.

João Lourenço expressed the expectation that the new leadership will strengthen development partnerships with African nations, reiterating the Republic of Angola’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with the AfDB.

The partnership between Angola and the AfDB is considered an example of strategic cooperation aimed at diversifying the economy, regional integration and strengthening human capital. Among the projects supported, investments in the Lobito Corridor, a transport and logistics route that is fundamental for regional economic development, stand out. The AfDB has financed initiatives that promote the creation of jobs for young people, especially in the agriculture and transport sectors. The institution has also encouraged the growth of the private sector in Angola, with an emphasis on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and youth entrepreneurship. Assistance extends to the legal field, through the African Legal Support Mechanism, which provides specialized technical support in complex trade negotiations, particularly in the areas of natural resources and infrastructure. The AfDB has supported food security and environmental protection projects, promoted sustainable energy solutions and contributed to the development of local capacities.
