Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the MPLA, João Lourenço, highlighted, this Saturday, in Luanda, the party’s fighting and victorious spirit on several fronts, since the colonial period.
When speaking at the presentation of the party’s political agenda for the current year (2024), the president made an overview of some of the main actions and respective results, since the beginning of the armed liberation struggle, which led the country to national independence, on November 11, 1975, with definitive peace achieved in April 2002.
Likewise, he said the party was emerging victorious in the process of rebuilding the country, which he acknowledged was not yet complete.
According to João Lourenço, despite facing many conflicts, important progress has been achieved in several areas of life.
Despite the victories, he said, the party cannot sit back and must continue to work hard for a strong Angola, as it has challenges at present and will certainly face others in the future.
“We were victorious after a lot of struggle, a lot of sacrifice, in the fight to maintain our sovereignty, which cost a lot of blood and sweat for decades, in the fight for national reconciliation. We are emerging victorious in the reconstruction process”, he said, remembering that the country had been devastated by a 27-year war.
The party leader said it is clear that all this work is done, above all, by the Executive, but he said that the Government is supported by the MPLA, a party that, he said, approves the laws, programs and the General State Budget (OGE), that guarantee the country’s development.
National independence
The MPLA president said, on the other hand, that the country will celebrate, next year, the 50th anniversary of national independence, a period in which the party was always at the side of the people and did more than the colonizer, in 500 years..
João Lourenço pointed out among the achievements, in this period of time, the construction of universities, schools, housing, as well as the improvement of water and energy quality for the population.
The launch of the agenda took place in the commune of Camama, municipality of Belas, with the event being marked by a musical-cultural show, attended by thousands of citizens including activists, supporters and friends of the party, in which several groups and singers from the capital participated, with emphasis on Calabeto, Carlos Lamartine, Zeca Moreno and Yola Semedo.
Witnessed the ceremony, among other individuals, were members of the party’s leadership, the first provincial secretaries, deputies and members of its women’s (OMA) and youth (JMPLA) organizations.
