Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, reaffirmed this Sunday the preponderant role of young people in the progress of the CPLP Member States and in the growth of the organisation.
When intervening in the political debate “Youth and Sustainability”, the Angolan Head of State defended greater investment in education and technical-professional training of young people, with a view to a healthy society and resilient nations.
In the debate held during the XIV CPLP Summit, João Lourenço underlined that the aforementioned assumptions (healthy society and resilient nations) allow the preservation of cultural values, identity, history, independence and national sovereignty.
“The homeland is our mother, so we have the responsibility to permanently prepare our young people for the need to defend (…) its symbols, the flag, insignia and the national anthem and the main organs of sovereignty”, expressed.
President João Lourenço added that everyone is called to the responsibility of educating, forming and preparing the younger generations, the family, the school, the community, governments and the church.
The Angolan statesman urged the need for countries to generate more jobs, mainly for young people who complete academic and professional training.
In the political debate, the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, defended greater attention and inclusion of young people in all areas of life in the States.
He considered it urgent to give more voice to youth and welcomed the Summit’s commitment to sustainability, education, health, as well as social solidarity in favor of climate action and biodiversity.
The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, said he believes that youth can play a crucial role in the future development of member countries.
Obiang Nguema defended the opening of the CPLP to other cultures, as he considers cooperation between peoples to be a world heritage.
Most Statesmen at the meeting valued attention to youth, stability and the consolidation of democracy in the community.
