Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country this Sunday, from São Tomé and Príncipe, where he participated in the Summit of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

At the “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Head of State received welcome greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa and members of the Executive.

During the Summit, Angola handed over the rotating presidency of the organization to São Tomé and Príncipe, which assumes the CPLP destinations until 2025.

At the opening ceremony of the summit, João Lourenço defended a more dynamic cooperation between Member States and reaffirmed the need to make the organization increasingly active.

For his performance in the international projection of the CPLP, the Angolan statesman was awarded, during the Summit, with the “José Aparecido de Oliveira Prize”, worth 30 thousand euros.

On the occasion, the President of the Republic announced the donation of the prize to the Youth Association of Support to Young People in Need (JUCARENTE), an Angolan social solidarity institution that operates in the municipalities of Cacuaco, Belas and Quissama.

In the political debate “Youth and Sustainability in the CPLP”, João Lourenço reaffirmed the preponderant role of young people in the progress of Member States and in the growth of the organisation.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government is the highest body of the CPLP. Its responsibilities are to define and guide the organization’s general policy and strategies.

The organization, founded on July 17, 1996, includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
