Africa-Press – Angola. Seventeen thousand and 497 needy families in the municipalities of Ambaca, Golungo Alto and Quiculungo, in Cuanza Norte province, have benefited, from July 2020 to July this year, from social monetary transfers, under the “Kwenda” programme.
A total of 843 million, 565 thousand and 500 Kwanzas were disbursed directly to the Program families.
11,220 households in the municipality of Ambaca, 4,364 in Golungo Alto, and 1,913 in Quiculungo benefited.
The amount of the program was paid quarterly, with each household receiving 25 thousand and 500 kwanzas per month.
Each family has benefited from at least one or two financial benefits so far.
The data were advanced, this Friday, in Ndalatando, Cuanza Norte, by the head of the Provincial Department of the Social Support Fund (FAS), Lourenço Matias, who was taking stock of the implementation of Kwenda in the 2020/2023 financial year, during the 3rd Provincial Social Action Conference.
He informed that the “Kwenda” Program, through the FAS, registered 20 thousand and 702 families in the municipalities of Ambaca, Golungo Alto, Quiculungo and Banga.
In this last municipality, 1,747 families registered, in May 2022, have not yet received monetary social transfers.
The official indicated that, for the municipality of Banga, the FAS is making efforts so that the payments take place in the second half of this month of August.
Kwenda, on the initiative of the Angolan Government, in addition to monetary transfers, also aims to reinforce the municipalization of social action through the creation and operation of Integrated Social Action Centers (CASI), strengthening of the Single Social Registry and Inclusion Productive.
In the chapter of productive inclusion, 10 households were direct beneficiaries, 1,913 were indirect, while two new ones were referenced.
Reinforcement of the municipalization of social action enabled the rehabilitation and operation of an Integrated Social Action Centre, which assisted 710 beneficiaries, and the training of 30 municipal technicians in this area.
The Provincial Conference was chaired by the director of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Victoria Braga.
The event aimed to assess the degree of implementation and evaluation of local policies and actions in favor of children, families, elderly and disabled people, minority communities, women, gender issues and vulnerable groups.
During the event, the participants addressed, among others, the results of the monetary social transfers program in Cuanza Norte, in the period from 2020 to 2023, the situation regarding the implementation of the National Social Action Policy in the municipalities, in the period of 2018 to 2022.
The event was also used to hold a public consultation on the proposed revision of Law 25/11 – Law against Domestic Violence.
At the end of the event, the director of the Legal and Exchange Office of the Government of Cuanza Norte, Victorino Abel, highlighted the importance of the social protection program in reducing the incidence of poverty, vulnerability and social exclusion of citizens.
The same, who spoke on behalf of the provincial governor of Cuanza Norte, Pedro Makita Armando Júlia, indicated that the challenges of the State are the reduction of regional asymmetries and the prevention of a situation of deprivation and marginalization in the country.
He underlined that such challenges are materialized with the implementation of various programs, among which the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty and the Strengthening of Social Protection “Kwenda” stand out.
The event also aimed at preparing the province’s participation in the National Conference on Social Action, to be held in October, in Luanda.
