Africa-Press – Angola. More than 44 billion kwanzas is the global amount given to needy families by the Social Protection Strengthening Program (Kwenda), during the three years of execution, said this Wednesday, in Luanda, the director general of the Institute of Local Development (FAS), Belarmino Jelembi.
According to the official, who was speaking during a visit by deputies from the 4th Committee of the National Assembly to the FAS premises, payments to families were made in cash (77%), multicaixa card (23%) and mobile money (0 ,4).
This program, according to Belarmino Jelembi, benefits around three million, 700,000 people in 63 municipalities in the country’s 18 provinces.
Still in his speech, the director general of FAS highlighted the increase in the monthly amount of social monetary transfers, since June this year, from kz 8 thousand and 500 to kz 11 thousand, as well as the increase in the period of permanence of a family in Kwenda program from 1 to 2 years.
Belarmino Jelembi also informed the parliamentarians that this programme, which among other objectives aims to increase the purchasing and financial capacity of needy families, is financed by the Government of Angola with US$100 million and by the World Bank with US$320 million.
On his turn, the vice-president of the 4th commission of the National Assembly, Paulo de Carvalho, said that Kwenda is the main FAS project and with the presentation of the programs, goals and challenges that was made, he considers that the deputies will have information instruments that allow gathering information on the benefits that this program has been introducing in the lives of families.
On the initiative of the Angolan Government, Kwenda aims to reinforce the municipalization of social action, through the creation and operation of Integrated Social Action Centers (CASI), strengthening of the Single Social Register, monetary transfers and productive inclusion.
