Africa-Press – Angola. Lazare Adingono, basketball coach, who has played for the Cameroon national team, Petro de Luanda and is currently in charge of 1.o de Agosto, is one of the guests on the first panel of the seminar on Mental Health in Sport, today at 9:00 am, at the Aníbal de Melo Press Centre. The seminar is being promoted by Mark Sport, an Angolan company specialising in organising sporting events. The conference is open to athletes, coaches, managers, former athletes and other sports agents.

A graduate in Science from the University of Rhode Island, USA, the Cameroonian coach will speak on the following topics: Personality disorder, Unemployment, Anxiety and depression and Overcoming injuries.Elsa Bumba, a psychologist, and basketball player Jone Pedro, from Interclube, are guests on the same panel. The second panel, composed of Paula Matoso, Nvunda Tonet, Madalena Félix and Geicy Ribeiro, will address: Psychological disorders associated with medication, Health and public safety, Discrimination and How to deal with poverty and hunger.

According to experts, in sports there are many examples around the world of athletes who achieved fame and success, but who later faced serious mental health problems.

World boxing star Mike Tyson, former world heavyweight champion, is an example, as he had an extremely successful but also turbulent career. After his peak, he faced depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse and legal problems.

The former boxer spoke openly about the challenges and the rehabilitation journey.
