Angola and Vietnam Strengthen Cooperation Ties

Africa-Press – Angola. The new Angolan Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Fernando Miguel, presented the Letters of Credence to the Vietnamese President, Luong Cuong, this Thursday during an official ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. The occasion marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, which this year celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, made official on 12 November 1975.

During the courtesy audience that followed the ceremony, the Angolan diplomat conveyed President João Lourenço’s wishes for health, peace and continued progress to his Vietnamese counterpart and to the people of that Asian country.On the occasion, the envoy reaffirmed the Angolan Government’s desire to deepen the historic relations of friendship and solidarity, which date back to the visit of the late President António Agostinho Neto to Vietnam in 1971, at the height of the struggle for national independence.

Fernando Miguel also highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation in the areas of health, education and agriculture, with the intention of expanding it to strategic sectors such as tourism, technology, renewable energy, mineral resources, oil and gas, aquaculture, infrastructure and attracting investment.

The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of promoting the Lobito Corridor Project, as a crucial initiative to make Angola a strategic logistics hub in Southern Africa. He also referred to the importance of mobilizing external financing and public-private partnerships to ensure the efficient operation of the corridor.

In turn, President Luong Cuong thanked the Angolan Head of State for his message, welcomed the new diplomat and wished him success in carrying out his duties.The Vietnamese statesman expressed his desire to deepen bilateral relations and acknowledged Angola’s strategic role in the region and on the African continent, suggesting that the country could serve as a platform for connecting Vietnam with the rest of the African continent.

The ambassadors of the Democratic People’s Republic of Algeria, Australia and the Dominican Republic were also accredited at the same ceremony.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of the Angolan diplomatic corps accredited in Hanoi.
