Africa-Press – Angola. A literary fair called “Angola Leia” opened this Thursday in the city of Huambo, with the participation of 142 exhibitors from across the country, with the aim of boosting, promoting and valuing national literature.

The event, which runs until Saturday, in the courtyard of the Huambo Provincial Library, under the motto “Rescuing the values ​​of reading in Angolan society”, features 5,000 books, ranging from novels, academics and science by national and foreign writers.

On the occasion, the organizer of the fair, Nituecheni Africano, said that it was the first edition of the event, with the aim of contributing, above all, to the recovery of the reading habits of the Angolan population, which, in recent times, have been lost.

He informed that the event will also count, in three days, with cultural moments, such as the recitation of poetry, recitals, live music, debates and lectures, as well as tributes from some national and foreign writers.

On his turn, the director of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office of Huambo province, Jeremias da Piedade Chissanga, highlighted the importance of the event, for exhibiting works and allowing the sharing of ideas that enhance national literature.

The person in charge called for the massive participation of different sectors of society, taking into account the size of the works on display, with a view to greater growth in literature and local culture.

At the fair, with the participation of the country’s 18 provinces, literary works by several Angolan writers are on display, such as Lopito Feijó, José Luís Mendonça, Aníbal Simões, Lucas Cassule and other national and foreign ones.
