Africa-Press – Angola. The enthronement ceremony of the 25th king of the Mbunda people will take place next August, in the village of Lumbala-Nguimbo, in the municipality of Bundas, in the province of Moxico.
According to Prince Mwene Nguimbo, who was speaking to the press about preparations for the presentation and enthronement of the next sovereign, chosen by the high royal judiciary, this cultural event will take place from the 22nd to the 24th of August, this year.
According to the official, this is the sovereign Edu Chefo, who will adopt the title of Mwene Mbandu V, aged 53, currently residing in the district of Kaoma, Western province of the Republic of Zambia, a region that belongs to the kingdom of Mbundas.
He added that he is a trained and intellectual person, knowledgeable about local culture and tradition, speaking the Mbunda, Cokwe, Luvale and English languages.
The new king will replace the Theologian João Pedro Mussole (Mwene Mbandu IV), who died in December 2022, three months after his enthronement.
For this cultural event, dance and song rehearsals are taking place, as well as the preparation of food logistics, in order to serve thousands of people attending the ceremony, such as government entities, traditional and religious authorities, scholars, and other segments.
According to data, the Mbunda kingdom is made up of more than 15 million people, residing in the territories of the municipalities of Bundas and Luchazes (province of Moxico), and extends to the neighboring province of Cuando-Cubango, as well as in the Republics of Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Democratic Congo.
