Africa-Press – Angola. OEACP members who do not ratify the Samoa Agreement will continue in the organization only with observer status and will be prevented from benefiting from funding, according to deputy Virgílio Tchiova.

Speaking to the press, Wednesday, at the end of the work of the 1st Session of the OEACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, the event’s spokesperson said that only 66 countries signed the agreement and 13 did not do so, in this period of provisional implementation the same.

Regarding the OEACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, the deputy considered it very positive, as it allowed the creation of the organization’s first institutions after the Samoa Agreement.

“Today the curtain fell on this great historic event for Angola and we concluded that the balance is very positive, because the objectives were achieved”, he added.MCN

Signed in November 2023, the Samoa Agreement establishes the global legal framework, over the next twenty years, for the European Union’s relations with the 79 countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, covering around one and a half thousand people.

The agreement, which replaces the Cotonou agreement between the EU and African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, covers six priority areas, namely democracy and human rights, sustainable economic development and growth, climate change, human and social development , peace, security and migration and mobility.

It has been in force on a provisional basis, since January this year, and includes a common base at the level of the OEACP States, combined with three regional protocols for Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, focused on the specific needs of these regions.
