Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, expects the start of asphalting for 400 kilometers of roads in Cunene province in October this year, with emphasis on the section Ondjiva/Omala, on the National Road (EN). ) 120.
The government official informed that a road improvement program for Cunene had been approved, with half of the contracts signed, which is in the process of seeking funding.
The works will be in the short, medium and long term, with the Ondjiva/Omala section expected to benefit from this resumption of work on 80 kilometres, of the 160 divided into two lots. Its completion is expected in the second half of 2024.
In this location, he stressed, the process had already started and reached 50%, but, for financial reasons, the contract was suspended for some time, so that conditions are being created for its resumption in October.
The program includes, among others, the Otchinjau/Oncócua, Calueque/Xangongo, Cuvango/Cuvelai sections, the last two being included in credit lines in Europe, scheduled for 2024.
Carlos Alberto dos Santos also spoke of a project linked to the integrated infrastructures of the city of Ondjiva, tending to minimize the negative impact of the rain, whose financing is being negotiated with a consortium of European banks.
