Africa-Press – Angola. Interior Minister Manuel Homem confirmed this Friday in Luanda the automatic release of the 150 citizens covered by the presidential pardon decreed Thursday by Head of State João Lourenço.
According to the minister, speaking to the press as part of the “Coffee with Journalists” activity, prison service teams have already created the necessary conditions to ensure the implementation of the measure, which constitutes an act of clemency from the President of the Republic, directed at inmates with good behavior and who pose no social danger.According to the Presidential Decree, the decision falls within the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of National Independence, considered one of the most important milestones in the country’s history, having laid the foundations for the development of a people who lived for centuries under colonial oppression.
The minister emphasized that the pardon represents an opportunity for family and social reintegration for the beneficiaries, also contributing to the consolidation of national harmony.
At the same event, Manuel Homem addressed the situation of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), informing that the organization’s modernization process is underway, aiming to improve the management of passports and travel documents. The minister acknowledged recent difficulties related to the lack of passport cards for issuing passports, but assured that the problem is being overcome.
“We have received new cards and will continue to improve the passport processing process. We are also working to improve internal procedures to make the SME more efficient,” he stated.
The modernization and digitalization of the SME is part of the sector’s digital transformation strategy, aiming for greater security and speed in processing processes, integration with other public services, and quality service to both national and foreign citizens.
