Africa-Press – Angola. The national senior judo teams, of both sexes, should strive to win medals at the African Championship, from 6th to 11th of this month, at Casa Blanca (Morocco), striving for respect for the opponent.
This statement was made by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, who was speaking during the ceremony for the symbolic delivery of the Republic’s flag to the national team, held at the Sports Gallery, in Luanda.
The former captain of the senior women’s handball team used the example of Angolan judoka Edmilson Pedro, in the 66 kg category, who in 2022, in Algeria, surpassed the former champion of Africa.
“We are facing a talented and capable selection, which will be able to do much more compared to previous editions”, he said.
He appealed to judokas to fully comply with the technical guidelines, as a way of achieving the established objectives.
The captain of the judo team, Diassonema Neide, said that the good preparation phase, divided between the provinces of Benguela and Luanda, makes one dream of a good collective and individual performance.
For Josémar Frederico, vice-president of the Angolan Judo Federation, the main objective is to improve the fifth place by teams in the previous edition, and win more than four medals at individual level.
He informed that the group worked for 75 days and that it will travel to the stage of the competition on September 6th.
The selection consists of Leonardo Barros (-60 Kg), Edmilson Pedro (66 Kg), Edson Lucas (66 Kg), António Candeeiro (-73), Wilson Afonso (-81 Kg) and Adriano Tchissenda (-90 Kg).
The female class will feature Diassonema Neide (-63 Kg) Andreza António (-57), Jeovania Freire (-57 Kg), Maria Niango (-70 Kg), Crislayn Rodrigues (+ 78 Kg).
