Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Gregório dos Santos, assured, this Wednesday, that the rehabilitation of the 64 kilometers of the Alto Hama/Huambo section, on national road 250, will soon be completed.
The government official, who was speaking to the press during the start of work on sealing the Belém do Dango ravine, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, said it was a section that presents great difficulties, and road traffic requires a lot of effort.
He informed that the project is practically completed, from a technical point of view, where conservation and maintenance will be carried out, and that every effort to find a source of financing is being sought for the start of the project.
According to the government official, the Ministry of Construction, Urbanism and Housing is working towards the urgent resumption of the Cuima/Cussi section, on national road 354, which connects the province of Huambo with Huíla, as the contractor, being national, does not have financial solutions compatible with external financing.
He said that the solution found was to hand over the work to another contractor, who is already in contact with the previous company, which will allow work to resume later this year.
This section has a route of 65 kilometers, 20 of which are already paved and another 20 with the base layer completed, in a project that began in 2017, but was halted in 2019.
Still within the scope of national road 354, the Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing said that, in the next few days, work will begin on access to the Huambo landfill, which was initially approved for an earthworks solution, however, currently , no longer responds to existing needs.
He added that, based on what was found in joint work with the Government of Huambo, a paved road does not meet the needs of the project, given the access to heavy traffic, in addition to there being a Water Treatment Station on site, which will require greater traffic.
He added that the discontinuity of the earthworks section also results from the fact that it has access to the Animal Vaccine Factory under construction, in an action in which the financial solution is ongoing and at a good pace.
Carlos Gregório dos Santos highlighted the mastery of the approval of the urban requalification process of the main neighborhoods of the city of Huambo, a project that from a technical point of view has already been completed, with approval from the Court of Auditors, only awaiting the approval of the financial solution, in a satisfactory approach with the Ministry of Finance.
He added that the initiative, which should already be done, with external financing valued at 182 billion Kwanzas, approved in the General State Budget for 2024, will provide better requalification and modernization of the infrastructures of the city of Huambo.
Self-build program
The Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Gregório dos Santos, said that, despite this province having three centralities, namely Lossambo (Huambo), Fernando Faustino Muteka (Caála) and Halavala (Bailundo), the Angolan Government plans to make lots available of land for directed self-construction.
He informed that the country has, in total, a deficit of 2.2 million housing units, which if nothing is done, by 2050, given the growth of the Angolan population, the number will be around four million housing units.
Hence, he continued, it is planned to launch, in the province of Huambo, by 2027, the public distribution process of more than 20 thousand lots, which will be available to interested citizens and companies.
He reaffirmed the demolition of the former FAPA building, in the interior of the city of Huambo, which is in a state of ruin and poor conservation, in a process in which the appropriate conditions are being prepared, where the solution will be the construction of social houses , so that the residents who are accommodated there.
Located in the Central Highlands of Angola, the province of Huambo, with an area of 35,771 square kilometers, has a population of over two million, 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed across 11 municipalities.
