Africa-Press – Angola. An Integrated Public Security Center (CISP), with 184 video surveillance cameras, was inaugurated on Tuesday (09) in the city of Cabinda, province of Cabinda, by the minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem.
Budgeted at more than USD5 million, the infrastructure is equipped with modern computer and technological resources, allowing for more efficient and effective police action.
Built in the Tshizo neighborhood by a Chinese company Kdacom during nine months, the project includes a video surveillance control room capable of detecting crimes in public areas, border zones, protection systems for economic and strategic objectives, among other equipment, which facilitates operational actions and criminal investigations at the regional level.
Speaking to the press after the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, assured that 180 officers will ensure the center operates 24/7, to handle complaints from citizens and others.
He explained that the aforementioned infrastructure will be interconnected to the network of Public Security Centers operating in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, and Huíla.
The governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, highlighted the importance of the CISP in strengthening actions to combat criminal activity in the region.
She pointed to fuel smuggling, illegal immigration, robbery, and assaults as the crimes that most trouble the inhabitants of this northernmost province of the country.
Construction of 12 new CISPs announced
On the occasion, Manuel Homem announced the construction of 12 new Integrated Public Security Centers in the country in the near future.
He said that the ministry he heads already has formalized contracts with contractors for the construction of these new projects, with only minor details remaining before the construction’s kick off in provinces to be announced soon.
According to the minister, the objective is to gradually connect the remaining provinces of Angola with the network of Integrated Public Security Centers already inaugurated in the country.
He said that maintenance support has been secured with the construction companies for a period of 3 years.
The project also includes the training and capacity building aspect for the personnel who will support the operations and functioning of the CISP throughout the national territory.
