Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on Monday discussed with the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Hiroaki Sano, the preparation of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

TICAD is an initiative of the Government of Japan in partnership with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.

The fact was made public in a note, adding that the two entities addressed the diplomatic and protocol aspects of Angola participation in the conference, as well as the strategic priorities that may be taken by the country to the forum.

Minister Téte António highlighted the importance of TICAD as a privileged platform for dialogue and cooperation between Africa and Japan, underlining the country commitment to promoting sustainable development, peace and regional integration.

In turn, the Japanese ambassador reiterated his Government commitment to strengthening relations with Angola and supporting projects that contribute to economic growth and the improvement of the living conditions of the Angolan people.

TICAD is a high-profile diplomatic platform for African countries, providing opportunities for the defence of common interests in international forums; negotiate financial and technical support and establish or strengthen bilateral relations with Japan and other partners.

It differentiates itself by adopting an approach based on African ownership of development processes and the principle of partnership.

The conference promotes political dialogue and encourages the peaceful resolution of conflicts, as well as the building of democratic and stable institutions, as well as stimulating trade and investment between Africa and Japan.

TICAD serves as a bridge to increase Japanese direct investment flows into Africa, particularly in sectors such as energy, agriculture, health, education and technology, support human capital development and capacity building programs, scholarships and technology transfer.
