Minister of State receives African-American delegation in audience

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, received, this Tuesday, in Luanda, a delegation of African-Americans, made up of young basketball players from the State of Virginia, accompanied by members of the Tucker family, descendants of Angolan slaves.

The meeting took place in reference to a tourist tour and sharing experiences in the youth, cultural and sports field, which brought 58 people to the country’s capital, including basketball players.

The delegation was received after a visit to some of the tourist attractions in the city of Luanda, where they learned about the historical potential that the capital holds, namely regarding the slave trade.

According to the head of the delegation, Vicent Tucker, the family intends to support the Angolan Government in creating a platform for articulation and permanent consultation with the African diaspora, boosting tourism in Angola.

In demographic terms and according to data published in the United States of America (USA), African-American history records a genetic inheritance of approximately 32 million people of Angolan descent.

The Tuckers are part of an African-American family made up of slaves who left Angola and arrived in North America by sea some 404 years ago.

Currently, the family owns the “William Tucker 1624 Society”, an institution that conducts research, among others, on the life of William Tucker and his descendants.

William Tucker was born to two of the first Africans in Virginia who landed in the Jamestown Colony before his birth. He was the first African American who was born in the British colonies that later became the United States of America.
