Minister of State receives North American "jazz bands"

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, received, this Tuesday, in Luanda, in separate audiences, the members of the North American music bands “Mississippi Band” and “The Dizzy Gillespie Band”, after having participated, at the weekend, in the Resiliart Angola Jazz party.

At the end of the meetings, the lead singer of the “Mississippi Band”, Pauline Perry, said that being received by the Angolan official was very impressive and served to address, among other subjects, jazz in Angola, how it is done, support and possibilities for greater exchanges .

For the artist, it has been important to be in Angola and on the African continent and to know how people receive the music of their ancestors, developed and improved on the other side of the Atlantic.

However, Pauline Perry explained that jazz in the country still needs to be praised in many ways, “with little things and those musical details typical of the musical style”, in question.

The presence in the country, he said, has proved to be a pleasant surprise, as, in the two days of the jazz festival, he learned a lot about Angolan culture and its reality, contrary to a lot of distorted information that he heard and thinks of returning at the first opportunity.

John Lee, leader of “The Dizzy Gillespie Band”, said that the meeting surprised the group due to the interest shown by the Angolan minister in establishing bridges between musicians from both countries, as happened in the two days of the jazz festival.

According to the executive director of Resiliart Angola, Marcos Agostinho, present at the audiences, the two days of the festival were unique and fantastic moments for having managed to bring together in the country’s capital, approximately 26 international artists who joined the national ones and made an authentic celebration of Jazz.

He explained that the Resiliart Angola Festival, for the fourth time, is held in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the American Schools of Angola (ASA), the Coordination of the National Management Committee of the Luanda and the National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP).

About the meeting, he said that the Executive’s commitment to create, through Resiliart Angola, exchange platforms was naturally evident, as happened in 2021 at the Bienal de Luanda.

Resiliart Angola was launched by the “American Schools of Angola” (ASA) in April 2021, within the scope of the Bienal de Luanda and the global Unesco Resiliart movement with a focus on supporting the creativity of artists to provide opportunities and improve their Skills.
