Africa-Press – Angola. The geological-mining operations carried out in some mines confirmed around 810 million carats of diamonds in reserves, per exploration.

The information is expressed in the press release of the semi-annual diamond production balance meeting held in Dundo, which aimed to analyze the geological prospecting process, operating costs, fiscal and environmental responsibility of the companies.

The note refers that around US$200 million were invested in the prospecting process, with the aim of strengthening the foundations and preparing the ground for sustainable growth in the future.

These reserves, continues the note, reinforce the sustainability of the subsector and require companies to innovate and strengthen mining operations.

According to the statement, companies in the subsector expected an even more robust performance for the second half of this year, mainly in relation to production and are optimistic about sales, with the confidence that the festive periods will provide valuable opportunities.

Regarding tax compliance, companies were committed to paying taxes within the deadlines established in the general tax code and other accessory legislation.

With regard to the environment, the companies committed themselves to improving the recovery processes of degraded areas and the construction of a tailings basin for the rivers.

On the other hand, the note informs that the companies made an investment above 100 million US dollars destined to projects that benefit the communities, within the framework of social responsibilities.

The participants defended the implementation of sustainable projects that impact on the life of the communities, taking good note of the recommendations made by the government of the province of Lunda Norte regarding family farming and the promotion of entrepreneurship.

During three days, the diamond companies took stock of production over the last five years, the operational situation of the first half of this year, as well as carrying out an economic and financial analysis.

Human resource management, social responsibility programs and corporate constraints were part of the agenda.

The country has 22 mines in exploration and 40 projects in prospect.
