Africa-Press – Angola. Four thousand and 142 pets, including dogs and cats, were vaccinated in the second quarter of this year, in Cunene, another three thousand, 541 in relation to the same previous period.

The information was provided, this Saturday by the head of the Technical Section of the Veterinary Services of Cunene, Félix Augusto, referring that of the vaccinated animals, 4,130 are dogs and 12 cats.

He made it known that the increase was due to the reinforcement of awareness actions in the neighborhoods and villages, with the collaboration of traditional authorities, on the importance of vaccines for animals.

On the other hand, he explained that during the quarter in question, three children were bitten by dogs suspected of rabies, against two cases of bites registered in the previous period.

“As part of the programmed actions, we are creating conditions for carrying out a routine vaccination campaign, starting in October, to prevent rabies in animals”, he informed.

Félix Augusto said that the Department of Veterinary Services in Cunene has enough doses to support the vaccination program for dogs, cats and monkeys in the coming months of the year.
