Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Motor Sports Association of Huíla is betting on municipal races, to leverage the sport and counteract the lack of support for major events, such as the “200 KM of Huíla”.
Speaking to the press its president, Ívan Santos, stressed that motor sports in Huíla are going through a difficult period, marked by the lack of financial support, lack of infrastructure that allows for the year-round development of activities related to the segment’s modalities .
The little support it receives, according to the director, is being invested in the area of motor training, organization of races at municipal level, to encourage new riders to join and “manage closely so as not to let the modality die”.
For training, for example, cited the source, the parking lot at Tundavala Stadium is used in a risky and improvised way, which allows some work to be done in the beginner categories in karting, super bikes and FG motorcycles, but for the higher categories in cars and 600 motorcycles, does not meet conditions.
He clarified that the goal has served as a “stop-gap”, an issue discussed with the Municipal Administration of Lubango and the Government of Huíla, in the sense of, in the long or medium term, helping to create an infrastructure dedicated only to motor sports and with better security conditions.
He recalled that, for more than 10 years, there has been a project to build a race track at Kilometer 40, but the area in which it is planned is invaded by popular people and is far away, which can inhibit spectators from having there to watch the events.
However, Ívan Santos, pointed out that studies are underway to find alternatives closer, such as the centrality of Quilemba (Lubango) or the municipality of Humpata, where they can fit an infrastructure of the kind.
Currently, the provincial Association holds one race per year of the 200 km of Huíla in cars and motorcycles and other karting, in addition to events in some municipalities, especially on commemorative dates.
