Africa-Press – Angola. The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA congratulated the Angolan people who celebrate today, “with pride and a sense of responsibility”, April 4, “Day of Peace and National Reconciliation”.
In a statement, the MPLA highlights that this date marks the end of the long and painful period of civil war that ravaged our nation for 27 years.
According to the MPLA, the signing of the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, which allowed the effective implementation of the Lusaka Peace Accords, signed on 20 November 1994, marked a firm step towards building a new cycle of stability and development.
In the document, the Political Bureau reiterates its desire for Angolans to continue to enjoy the fruits of Peace, maintaining hope in policy measures that aim to promote the best responses to the problems that afflict the population, based on maintaining the principle of working to “SERVE THE PEOPLE AND MAKE ANGOLA GROW”.
”The efforts of the Angolan Executive in strict compliance with the priorities set by Comrade President João Lourenço have been visible in all sectors of national life, however we are aware that much still needs to be done within the scope of the implementation of the 2022-2027 Governance Program”, it can be read.
The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA also reaffirms its conviction that the country’s development depends on the commitment of each citizen, and that it is essential that young people embrace their role in the process of national construction with dedication, through study, work and innovation.
In this emblematic and joyful year, the declaration states, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA urges all Angolan society to actively engage in the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of National Independence.
”May Peace, achieved through the sacrifice, sweat, blood and resilience of the Angolan people, continue to be the foundation on which we build a more developed, fair and supportive Angola for all”, concludes the declaration.
