MPLA Elects its 2Nd in Command in Luanda

Africa-Press – Angola. Ermelindo da Silva Gonçalves Pereira was elected, on Tuesday (18), 2nd Secretary of the MPLA Provincial Committee of Luanda, during the 2025 First Ordinary Plenary Session of the party in the country’s capital.

The event, which was attended by 192 members, out of the 230 expected, also unanimously elected the Executive Committee, which has 64 members.

The members of the Provincial Committee also elected Gabriela da Natividade Moreira Palhares to coordinate the Discipline, Ethics and Audit Committee.

Due to incompatibility of functions, the current municipal administrator of Cacuaco, Fernando João, who was the secretary for Urban Organization, was replaced by Moisés África.

Speaking at the session on behalf of the secretary-general, the secretary of the Political Bureau for Economic and Social Policy, Maria Idalina Valente, called on members to continue to “close ranks around the party president, João Lourenço, and work to resolve the people’s problems”.

In statements to the press, the secretary of the Department of Information and Propaganda, Aguinaldo de Oliveira, stated that the MPLA in Luanda is prepared for the upcoming challenges, with emphasis on the reorganization of the intermediate structures, in view of the new Political-Administrative Division.

With the exception of the secretary for Urban Organization, who was also elected, the 1st Secretary of the MPLA in Luanda gave a vote of confidence to the previous members of the Executive Committee, who were reappointed.
