Africa-Press – Angola. The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to honour the legacy of the heroes of the 4th of February, translating the spirit of resistance and unity into concrete actions to improve the living conditions of the Angolan people.
In a message for the 64th anniversary of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, the Political Bureau stresses that the date, a symbol of the courage and determination of the Angolan people, marks the beginning of a historic epic that culminated in the conquest of national independence by the voice of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
‘On this day of great historical significance, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA warmly and effusively greets the Angolan people and pays tribute to the brave nationalists who, on February 4, 1961, raised the flag of resistance and started the Armed Struggle for National Liberation,’ the document stresses.
The MPLA Political Bureau urges all Angolans, from Cabinda to Cunene and from the sea to the east, to celebrate this event with pride and a sense of responsibility, recognizing the historical and patriotic value of this milestone.
‘May the spirit of courage and patriotism of the 4th of February continue to be the flame that illuminates our actions in the face of the challenges of economic and social development and the consolidation and preservation of the democratic process’.
In the message, the Political Bureau also expresses its unconditional support to the Executive, in order to continue to promote peace, progress and stability in the country, in this jubilee year of special symbolism, in which the 50th anniversary of National Independence is celebrated, the main reason for the 4th of February.
The Political Bureau also expresses its satisfaction that, for the first time in the history of independent Angola, the country’s highest magistrate assumes the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU), a fact that will mark the continent’s agenda with the political dynamism that characterizes Angola and Southern Africa.
