Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan musician Carlos Lamartine on Wednesday, in Luanda, warned the about the need to licence and protect the country’s rhythms and cultural values as a way to enhance national identity and preserve artistic heritage from misuse.

Carlos Lamartine spoke on the panel “Music, challenges, opportunities and perspectives” during the First National Congress of the Arts, promoted by the National Union of Artists and Composers, reaffirming the need to standardize and make a complete list of the national heritage in order to preserve and recognize genres such as Semba, Kizomba, and others.

“The licence serves to protect Angolan rhythms and music, preventing them from being protected or distorted by third parties, especially by those who do not contribute to their preservation”, he emphasized.

National dance also received comment from the musician, who challenged cultural organizations to remember the preservation of Angolan dance, rhythms, and musical instruments, so as not to confuse them.

During the lecture, the musician explored the historical origins of Angolan urban cultural music, dating back to the 1940s, in the 20th century.

The musician discussed rural music, including carnival blocks, groups and their emergence, as well as the involvement of musicians in the national liberation struggle, all the way to the present day.

The two-day event, which brings together artists from various fields, is under the theme “Culture is Our Identity, Art is Our Strength.”

it will cover topics such as “music, challenges, opportunities and perspectives,” “experiences and challenges on copyright and related rights,” “state of angolan theater – findings and perspectives,” “dance, its cultural, professional, and internationalization dimension,” among others.
